How sad for all the falcon lovers. My condolences go out to everyone that knew her...

I am saddened by the news of Froona's passing. She will be missed. Her dedication to sharing the news and whereabouts of the Netherlands peregrine falcons and others worldwide was astonishing.

When someone mentions names of people who love the peregrine falcons like no other...two names come to mind... Froona and Linn Pierson. May they both share in the hear after and watch over our beloved birds.

Froona - May the Great Spirit watch over you, and may you be at peace.

It's sad indeed . . . and still quite unreal.
But she will live on in our hearts, her knowledge, that she so gladly shared, will be passed on, we willl remember her whenever we see a Peregrine Falcon.

I was truely saddened when I read about the terrible news. What makes it worse, I had no idea she was this ill. May her spirit be carried on Falcon wings to join her little furbabies who will keep her company. Her legacy will live on

My sincere condolences to Froona's family and friends.

Could someone tell me when the hatch date is? So many nests, I lose track.

I noticed the other day that S2 was trouble walking . she seemed better today. Was I the only one that noticed that.

I sure hope these intruders take a hike.

Froona has given us so much pleasure with her extraordinary daily coverage of Peregrines all over the world and it is hard to believe that she has gone. For two of her faithful viewers in England, it is especially poignant that her last photos were from Derby. Grateful thanks and sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Still no hatch as far as I know.

No, we are still eagerly waiting. Maybe some time tomorrow a pip becomes visible and the first chirps from within the egg(s) can be heard.
Third egg was laid on March 19, add 33 days and the first hatch could/should happen on Tuesday.
The first signs might be that S2 becomes restless, looking at the eggs a lot, making soft noises as if talking to the chick in the egg.
I think a lot of people will be glued to their screen the coming days, with the volume at maximum.

thanks Ingrid. I thought today was the day for the expected hatch of the first egg. I was being a bit too eager I think.

I've been away for a few days but came back today to find the live nest feed frozen at 19-04-2009 12:06:58 and the broad view at 19-04-2009 12:07:16. Is it my computer or what?

On this site the cams are froozen, but you can watch te livestream cams on this website. they are up to date.

S2 left nest box at around 18.15 Dutch time, giving us a good view of the eggs - Can't see any signs of pipping yet!!

[Kathyj, great video capture, thanks for sharing. Clara and Estaban from San Jose, California had their fist chick crack out last night. If I remember correctly, she laid her first egg one day before S2. So...maybe today! (my time as I right this 8:45am Tuesday) It's going to be exciting!!!

Make that 3 chicks, they hatched about 8 hours apart...one more to go

Some foolish bird hanging around the nest box.... not very smart!

Great video BEANS ! A very confused pigeon there, or plain stupid . . . . .
Yesterday a TV crew was at the Tower to make recordings for a program called "Vroege Vogels" ("Early Birds"). This program is covering the BDL webcams on TV. Next Tuesday, April 28, the item about the stars of BDL will air.
Zwiersje (Anita) was there and has also been to a Falconer with this crew. They wanted some good close-ups of a Peregrine Falcon. Froona was involved in finding a good one but couldn't finish it. So Anita did that and took Froona's place.
Zwiersjes report of yesterday translated:

It was a very relaxed get-together today.
The film crew was introduced to the many Falcon watchers present on the spotters field and they gave a short explanation of what was to happen during the day.
Soon Menno, the narrator, arrived and we had a nice relaxed conversation for a while.
Recordings were made on the spotters field and an interview with Dorine.
She was asked what was so special about Peregrine Falcons and she did a great job on explaining it of course.
A few of the watchers were filmed too, then it was time to have lunch
After lunch it was Roel's turn, inside the Tower. Showing and explaining the equipment that is used.

The weather was great, everybody was in an excellent mood, so all and all it was a great day!

I just came to post that still no hatch at De Mortel - I hope all is ok with the eggs. Should we be getting worried now??

I like the idea of the changing updates at the top of the screen, so we now know that two have hatched at Zwolle. I haven't been watching them this year - just too many to choose from - I have to put a limit - but it always good to know how things are doing in the other nests. This is why Froona's site was so precious - it was a great way to know how they were all doing in one easy step.

OOh, and I see that the Torenvalk have finally laid their first egg on the Beleef de Lente website. That box could have been anyones - what with the poor doves being first to lay, then the jackdaws destroying their eggs and trying to take over the box, only for the Torenvalk to then claim the box back for themselves. What drama.
